What geek doesn’t love a good mash-up? When we found these Star Wars Minions figures, they immediately went on Captain Owen’s wishlist. Grandma Janice couldn’t wait until Christmas though, and they arrived, much to Captain Owen’s ecstatic bouncing around the house, a few days later. Captain Owen’s mom and baby sister both make guest appearances this episode as we discuss that boys and girls can both like the same characters and toys.
On today’s episode, Captain Owen has his first guest–Gabby! Gabby and her mom were visiting Seattle and we all met up at the aquarium before coming back to our house to record the episode. We all read one of Owen and Gabby’s favorite books–Grandmother Fish.
This week we read some of Captain Owen’s new books starting with DK Readers Level 2: Star Wars Rebels: Meet the Rebels. In the reading comprehension and retention quiz, I am aware that I mistakenly said Sabine was from Ryloth and not Mandalore–no need for corrections thanks 🙂 We also discuss our family Star Wars Rebels Halloween costumes again. We finish off by reading DK Readers Level 2: LEGO Star Wars: Free the Galaxy. These DK books are great for learning readers who are also Star Wars fans as the content helps drive the reading lessons.
This week we spend the majority of the episode discussing Star Wars: Droid Tales before dipping in to potential Halloween costumes for our family (the cast of Star Wars: Rebels is the current lead choice). We finish off discussing Zootopia.
Sorry for the skip week–Baby Hazel plus a last minute business trip meant no time for a podcast last week. This week we jump right back in by reading a couple of the Star Wars Little Golden Books. These are awesome little versions of the six movies (The Force Awakens one is on our wishlist). We always have a blast reading these together.
Things have become a little crazy around here with the latest addition to our family, Baby Hazel! We start this episode with a sincere thank you to the folks over at Dreamworks for sending Captain Owen an awesome little care package of the die-cast DinoTrux toys. In my opinion, these are the best of the whole line–they are sturdy because of the metal, and they’re a convenient size to take pretty much anywhere (which we have been). Owen then sings a song to his new baby sister before holding her and making up some stories for her.
In today’s episode we talk about our latest trip to Disneyland. We were anticipating Owen’s first time on Star Tours but, despite his doctor’s measurements from two weeks ago, Owen wasn’t tall enough. We still had a blast though, and Owen decided that The Jungle Cruise is his new favorite ride.
First of all, happy Mother’s Day to all the mom parental units out there. Today we talk a little bit about Owen’s Thomas the Train collection before diving in to his latest geekdom–Dinotrux. We read the original Dinotrux book by Chris Gall before also discussing the Netflix cartoon and related toys.
As you may have noticed, last week was a skip week thanks to Emerald City Comicon, but we are now back on schedule! We saw The Jungle Book yesterday and we had talk a little about Captain Owen’s initial reactions right after the movie. We discussed it again today and got very different feedback. We also sing a couple of songs and discuss Owen’s newest geekdom–DinoTrux.
